Eco Global GardeningSun, Rain and Time
It is all we really need to succeed!
What eco global livingrequires of us, is to apply ourselves to change our ways I would like to start with the disposable of household waste.Eco global living is applying methods that will help us keep our world a clean and green one. Our future very much depends on Eco Global Living.
These are a few simple things that we should be doing or are already doing. We could start using a Recycling Box as much as possible. This would eliminate a lot of waste in our landfill sites. So, then why not compost along with it. Taking produce scraps for example and at the end of the day when all your cooking is done add these scraps to your composter. We end up putting them in a kitchen garbage bag then it goes in another garbage bag. It takes a long time for these bags to disintegrate. Why not, put it in a Tumbling Compost MixerThis is very beneficial for all our eco gardeningsrategies.
What is Compost? Compost is partially decomposed organic matter. The raw material for compost can be from many sources. Agricultural industrial and household waste. Why should we compost? As micro organisms decompose and digest the organic matter, a rich humus material is created. This process generates just the right amount of heat to eliminate weeds, insects, and pathogens. Composting also diverts waste from landfills, and creates an end product that improves soil quality. In the fall as we are cleaning up leaves and dead growth from our flower beds that is the time to compost as much as we can. Winter rains can wash many nutrients from the soil. Keep it covered with leafmould or fresh autumn leaves. This will then in turn give you a good head start in the spring. Over the winter months and during the spring your composter will work for you ensuring that in the spring you will have nice rich compost to add to your garden. Adding compost to your garden makes the earth a lot richer in spring. Using compost effectively increases the organic matter missing in many soils. Compost helps to aerate the soil, retain moisture, and moderate temperature. As beneficial soil organisms break down compost, they release nutrients into the soil that plants can easily absorb.Compost is one of the most diverse gardening materials. It provides the organic material most soils are lacking. In flowerbeds and our vegetable gardens. It is not a complicated procedure, but imagine the impact it would make in our landfill sites if we all tried our best to reuse all of our gardening waste along with our household waste. When you add something to your composter people think it will take a long time to break down. It does not take long, your composter gets so hot inside in summer it breaks down fast. In the winter months it is so cold it freezes and when spring comes the mush decomposes fast. .Plus it is also a beneficialeco gardening method . It works like a natural organic fertilizer. A All Purpose Plant Food
For those of us that do not have the opportunity to compost there is another method we could take to help eco global living. That is using eco friendly biodegradable.garbage bags. This would eliminate plastic from our landfill sites. The problem with plastic is that it takes so long to break down. Grocery stores now are promoting the use of green earth bags. You just have to remember to bring them or you will have to pay for your grocery bags. The less plastic the better for eco global living. So you see there are so many little things we can do. They now make almost any kind of biodegradable plastic bags you could possibly need. Doing our part that is eco global living.
Mulching is also benificial when used while eco gardening. The reason being it is a method of using up trees that are no longer needed. A good example of this is at Christmas. How many Christmas trees are disposed of after Christmas? After Christmas we put them at the road, the collectors's bring them to a shredder, it is then made into mulches. So that we can later on purchase it to use in our gardens. This is a greateco gardening technique. Mulches are materials placed over the soil surface to maintain moisture and improve soil conditions. Mulching is one of the most beneficial things a home owner can do for the health of a tree. Mulches can reduce water loss from the soil, minimize weed competition, and improve soil structure. Properly applied, mulch can give landscapes a handsome, well-groomed appearance. Mulch must be applied properly; if it is too deep or if the wrong material is used, it can actually cause significant harm to trees and other landscape plants.Trees growing in a natural forest environment have their roots anchored in a rich, well-aerated soil full of essential nutrients. The soil is blanketed by leaves and organic materials that replenish nutrients and provide an optimal environment for root growth and mineral uptake. Urban landscapes, however, are typically a much harsher environment with poor soils, little organic matter, and large fluctuations in temperature and moisture. Applying a 2- to 4-inch layer of organic mulch can mimic a more natural environment and improve plant health. I like cedar mulch, it smells so nice, also it breaks down easy. Pine and spruce trees actually are fantastic to eliminate bugs in your garden. I think it is the strong scent they have. Even pine needles as you are raking them up throw them in your garden. Excellant mulches.
Organic mulches include wood chips, pine needles, hardwood and softwood bark, cocoa hulls, leaves, compost mixes, and a variety of other products usually derived from plants. Organic mulches decompose in the landscape at different rates depending on the material and climate. Those that decompose faster must be replenished more often. Because the decomposition process improves soil quality and fertility, many gardener's consider that characteristic a positive one, despite the added maintenance. I like to purchase items that promote replanting of trees and using our money to preserve nature. If we cannot plant trees ourselves their are many organizations that will spend the time and money to reforest. To me that is my contribution to help replenish and help our eco global living situation. Eco gardening using what mother nature has already provided us with, natural resources.
LET US ALL MAKE THE WORLD A
ENVIROMENTAL FRIENDLY

Raised Garden Bed is the method I use to plant my vegetable gardens. There is no tilling or back breaking work to do. Set your box up, lay a layer of newspaper at the bottom to stop growth coming up after you fill it with soil. You are ready to plant your garden. I started using this method four years ago. I get more produce out of these little eco garden's then I ever got out of my back breaking, huge eco garden. It is simple eco gardening, enjoyable eco gardening. What I like about it, is it gives me more time to do other eco gardening projects. Use your compost lime, bone meal and you will be impressed by the end results. My tomatoe plants were 5ft high this year. Eco gardening boxes I love them. Yes, it is possible to grow tomatoes and other vegetables in your yard without having to chew up a large portion of it. I just grow a few tomatoes and pepper plants, carrots, beets, green onions ect.. They do just fine growing them this way, and it is much easier than a full garden. The maintenance and weeding is so much less time consuming. Even in a small city yard you can grow your veggies in these small gardening boxes. On your apartment balconies, anywhere, it takes up no room at all. Once you have your eco gardening box all ready to plant I use a few simple methods. Paper bag method is one I like to use, simply cut a hole in the bottom of paper bag, place it in your garden where you would like your seedling to go, place seedling in bag with the roots in your eco garden. This method will protect the plant till it establishes it's roots. Also it will protect it from the weather. Fully biodegradable very eco friendly. Empty toilet paper rolls or paper towel rolls will give you the same effect, it is just that paper bags give your seedlings more protection from harsh weather.
Eco global living raises concerns about why our water resources are drying up now, water is a big concern. So why not use what nature provides us with, rain! A Rain Barrel on a day of heavy rain will fill up in no time. Rain barrels are pretty simple devices. You connect the rain barrel to the downspout that leads from your rain gutters to the ground. After a shower or storm, the barrel will be filled with water that is stored for later use. Towards the bottom of the rain barrel, there will be a spigot that a hose can be attached to; you'll be able to wash a car or water a lawn in much the same way as using a conventional hose. The benefit of using this method is that you can water your garden as much as you want. Plastic rainbarrels are the easiest to use and care for. They can be found made entirely of recycled materials, so their purchase makes a positive impact on both ends. Plastic rain barrels are lightweight and sturdily constructed to stand most types of weather. Of plastic and Real Oak Rain Barrel or wood rain barrels, plastic is far less expensive. How much water do you think we waste just in watering our gardens, our lawns or even washing our cars? The number is substancial ! Another benefit of using rain barrels, is the amount you save on your water bill. It would probably benefit you! The rain barrel would pay itself off in a couple months time, easy! Simple procedures like this would helpeco global living and benefit our eco gardeningskills. Plants thrive alot better when you use non chlorinated water from a rain barrel.
Also using Garden Lime to sweeten the earth and Bone Meal to promote growth are a good practice eliminating the use of fertilizers, no worry about it entering our water table. Organic Garlic is a known natural bug repellant when planted in your garden. You can use these Garlic Clips for your roses as a organic bug repellant. Marigolds are another plant you could plant in your vegetable garden. I like to plant them along the front and one right in the middle. They add color to your vegetable garden and bugs do not like them at all, Plus marigolds are a very hardy flower, they will last right through till the first frost. Eco gardening using all what mother nature has already provided us with. Sun, rain & time. We should harness her assests!!!
