Garlic Health Benefits

Posted On 24-11-2009 , 7:25 AM

One of the main things I also plant in my garden is garlic. Garlic is like a wonder drug. It helps in preventing the common cold
and flu to the plague. Now with the scare of H1n1 flu virus, adding garlic to whatever you cook would be beneficial to your heath. I also use a lot of crushed garlic in a jar from the produce section of the grocery store. Although I do not like it as much.
It is easier on the days that I am very busy. Garlic is known as a natural antibiotic. For those who do not like the breath odor there are garlic supplements you can take instead. Another benefit to garlic swaying off of it's health benefits Is it is a  natural bug repellant. I like to plant it in my flower beds not only my garden. Bugs just do not like garlic. Chives and onions I also plant in my flower beds they have the same effect on repelling bugs. Have a nice day.

Christmas Cactus

Posted On 11-11-2009 , 4:57 PM

Today I got a bloom on my Christmas cactus. My daughter gave it to me last year for Christmas. But she only bloomed after Christmas. This year she will be right on time. My mother has a Christmas cactus and it  never bloomed. On the other hand my sister's would bloom on time and double it's size in between blooms. We came to the conclusion that my sister and I do not fuss over it. They do not need watering more then once a month. On the other hand my mother babies her's to death. A cactus is a cactus like in the desert they do not like to much water or being fussed over. Oh! by the way I forgot to mention that my cactus did bloom in June for me also. She is pretty gourgeous. Another christmas favourite is the white star of Bethlehem plant. They are extremely gourgeous. Like the cactus they are pretty much maintenance free.  Dandeny!

Eucalytptus plants

Posted On 10-11-2009 , 4:26 PM

Yesterday, I spent almost all afternoon preparing my perenials for the winter. I also clipped my ecalyptus and brought it inside. What I do with my branches is put it in a vase with a little water. I have a nice Christmas one I like to use. By doing this the aroma is instant. After Christmas I let it totally dry out. Once it is dried out it makes a beautiful accent to other dried flowers. I also like to simmer eucalyptus leaves in a little sauce pan on the stove. The effect you get from this method is like using a vapourizer with eucalyptus drops. I used this method a lot when my girls had a cold. Now,  I do it because I love the smell.
