Bleeding Heart

Posted On 31-01-2010 , 12:27 AM

The bleeding heart is another plant that I very much cherish. My sister died of epilepsy 22 years ago. She had a seizure after nursing her six week old son. I wanted to plant something special in her memory, but did not know what to plant, so I was talking to an elderly lady one day about gardening, I told her I needed to plant something in my sister's memory in the cemetery. Something special that did not need alot of care between visits. She suggested a bleeding heart. Excellant choice it was. It showed my true feelings, plus it was a very easy plant to maintain. I also planted one at home in her memory. This year I am going to plant one in memory of all the Haitian death's.There are alot of beeding heart's in the world tonight, don't let there be another bleeding heart in the world tomorrow. Dandeny!

Jackmanii Clematis

Posted On 30-01-2010 , 8:23 PM

About ten years back I bought myself a clematis, which I had ordered  in the winter. So when spring came, I was  anxious to get my clematis. One day I went to the mail and my clematis, and other plants I ordered were in. When I opened the box there was a root marked clematis. I did not know what to expect, but I was not expecting just roots. Needless to say I planted my Jackmanii clematis. The first year she grew was not too bad. Every year since then the plant just grows and grows. I recommend this clematis for every gardener. Just make sure that you use a sturdy trellis. The first trellis I purchased, was a poor quality plastic one, which depleted in a matter of a couple of years. Dandeny!

Lucky Bamboo Plant

Posted On 28-01-2010 , 7:08 AM

My lucky bamboo plant is by far the plant I have, that I am the proudest of. Many people have alot of problems with these plants.I was totally ignorant on how to care for this plant. I bought it when it was about 6 inches tall. Within a year it grew a foot. I then decided to transfer it into a bigger vase. Again not knowing what I was doing, I tranfered it into a clear vase about 18 inches tall. I noticed that the way I had bought it, it was planted with round rocks no soil. So I bought some aquarium rocks, and filled  the vase half full of these rocks. CAREFULLY! I placed my bamboo in the vase, making sure that the roots were  straight, then I continued to fill the vase with the rest of the rocks. I also made sure that no roots were exposed at the base. I filled my vase with water and added a few jobe fertilizer sticks. Now my lucky bamboo is 3 1/2 feet tall. The only thing is that now she has out grown that vase. She is ready to be transplanted again. Lucky bamboo is another easy household plant to maintain. As long as you keep it watered to the base of the plant, it will thrive for you. Maybe needs watering once every three months.  Lucky baboo has different meanings,it works on how many stalks you have. Mine has seven, meaning good heath. These plants can grow up to 8 1/2 feet tall. A very eco friendly hydroponic plant, Dandeny!

African Violet

The African violet is another one of my favourite plants. As a child I remember the distinct smell of these plants. My grandmother had a sun porch, and  all she grew were different varieties of these plants. African violets are very easy to maintain. They also bloom readily all year long, as long as they have a cozy window sill, that they will thrive on.These plants are grown world wide, even if you can believe it in antartica. Dandeny!

Snow Pansies

Snow pansies are a excellant choice of flower, for a winter flower bed. I first planted my snow pansies about two years ago. They add beautiful color to a void winter flower bed. They are maintenance free, the more you pluck a few flowers a day, the  more they produce.  Two or three more flowers. I find them incredibly interesting. How does a plant grow in the winter months? I'll probably never figure it out. Needless to say they do survive, even  the harshest winter weather. Pansies are another no fuss plant . Just plant them, and watch them grow.  Zinnia's and petunia's also grow well, very much like the snow pansies. They are another very hardy flower type, that will survive the cold  .Dandeny!
